One of the largest pink diamonds of all time discovered

Although it is not known what price it will reach, it is clear that they will be several million dollars.

Since 2015the Lulo mining project has discovered 27 diamonds weighing more than 100 carats, including the largest diamond ever found in Angola: the 404-carat “February 4 Stone”, which sold for $16 million in 2016.

“This record-breaking and spectacular pink diamond recovered from Lulo continues to showcase Angola as a major player on the global diamond mining stage and demonstrates the potential and rewards for commitment and investment in our growing diamond mining industry,” said Diamantino AzevedoMinister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas of Angola.

Africa is an especially diamond-rich part of the world because it has a high concentration of volcanic tubes, which basically act as “earth pores,” penetrating through the planet’s outer crust. Diamonds form deep underground, usually 100 miles (160 kilometers) or more below the Earth’s surface, when carbon deposits are exposed to the heat and extreme temperatures of Earth’s interior.
