It is necessary to take certain steps to keep your mouth clean, fresh and welcoming. Here are some professional tips from Dr. Gupta:
- If you wear a mouth guard or retainer, be sure to do a thorough job of cleaning them regularly.
- Establish a routine every evening with a toothpaste that combats dry mouth and supports oral moisture.
- Always buy a toothpaste that contains xylitol and is SLS-free.
- Every morning, floss and brush your teeth.
- Buy a tongue scraper and make sure to clean your tongue with it every time you brush.
- If you can’t brush your teeth, there are some foods that help freshen your mouth. Mint leaves are great as are cherries, apples, melons, and citrus foods.
Keep in mind that if there is an underlying health issue, your breath will not improve just by practicing good oral hygiene.
