A Single Drink a Day May Cause High Blood Pressure

For anyone who thinks a glass of wine a day is good for your heart, new research was presented last month at American College of Cardiology (ACC) Annual Conference can be hard to swallow.

A study of more than 17,000 adults in the United States showed that having just a few drinks a day may significantly contribute to high blood pressure (hypertension). This investigation differs from previous research, according to the study authors, in that it specifically assessed the link between high blood pressure and moderate drinking rather than the association between alcohol and heart disease.

“Our results show that even if you only drink a moderate amount of alcohol, ask your provider to check your blood pressure at every visit,” he said.
